Swedish Pharma Company AlzeCure Partners with Danish Biotech to Develop New Alzheimer’s and Brain Disease Treatment

AlzeCure Pharma, a Swedish pharmaceutical company, has signed a major deal with QuantumCell ApS, a Danish biotechnology company. This agreement gives QuantumCell worldwide rights to AlzeCure’s NeuroRestore platform, which includes their main drug candidate called ACD856.

As part of the deal, AlzeCure will receive an initial payment of $12 million. This includes $5 million as an immediate investment, which was paid at a 30% higher price than the company’s average stock price over the past 10 trading days.

The agreement also includes additional payments that AlzeCure will receive as ACD856 moves through development and gets approved for sale. These payments are tied to specific milestones, such as successful clinical trial results or regulatory approvals. Once the drug is on the market, AlzeCure will also earn royalties—a percentage of future sales—which will range from single digits up to low double digits. The total value of this deal, excluding royalties, is expected to exceed $2.2 billion.

ACD856 is a drug designed to enhance brain function by improving communication between nerve cells. It works by stimulating two important signaling pathways in the brain, NGF/TrkA and BDNF/TrkB, which are involved in memory, learning, and overall cognitive abilities. Early laboratory studies have shown that the drug not only improves memory and learning but also has protective effects on the brain. It reduces inflammation and may slow down the progression of brain diseases.

Because of its broad effects, ACD856 could potentially be used to treat multiple conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and depression.

Johan Sandin, Chief Scientific Officer at AlzeCure Pharma, explained: “With the positive results we’ve seen in clinical trials so far, along with preclinical studies showing that ACD856 can enhance cognition, protect the brain, and even have strong antidepressant effects, this drug has great potential to help a wide range of patients.”

QuantumCell, the company acquiring the rights to ACD856, is focused on developing new pharmaceutical treatments.

Martin Jönsson, CEO of AlzeCure Pharma, said: “This agreement with QuantumCell is a significant achievement for our company. ACD856 is the first drug of its kind in this class, and we’ve developed it entirely in-house, from initial research all the way to clinical trials. This partnership gives us the chance to bring this potential treatment to patients faster and help more people who are suffering from brain diseases.”

The deal is still waiting for approval from Swedish and Danish authorities under foreign investment regulations before it can be finalized.
