UK Health Watchdog Recommends GSK’s Nucala (mepolizumab) for New Use

Great news for patients with severe asthma! The UK’s health watchdog, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), has recommended that GSK’s drug Nucala (mepolizumab) be used for an additional condition. Nucala, also known by its generic name mepolizumab, is already widely used to treat a type of severe asthma called eosinophilic asthma. Now, NICE has advised that it can also help patients with another respiratory condition, specifically eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA). This recommendation means that more patients in England and Wales may soon have access to this important treatment. Nucala works by targeting a specific part of the immune system to reduce inflammation and improve symptoms. If you or someone you know is living with severe asthma or EGPA, it’s worth discussing this new option with your healthcare provider to see if Nucala could be right for you.
