Blood test company Grail has enlisted “Grey’s Anatomy” actress Kate Walsh to promote a campaign aimed at encouraging Generation X to get screened for cancer early. The campaign, called “Generation Possible,” highlights tests for early detection of multiple cancers. Although the campaign doesn’t focus on any specific brand, it does provide a link to Grail’s Galleri test for those interested.
In a video, Walsh shares how her parents’ cancer diagnoses motivated her to prioritize her health by quitting smoking, eating healthy, and exercising. She emphasizes the importance of early cancer detection, a possibility her parents’ generation didn’t have. Walsh urges people with higher cancer risks to consult their doctors about these tests.
Grail’s campaign notes that traditional screenings typically cover only specific cancers like colon, breast, and lung, whereas MCED tests aim to catch many more types early on. Grail highlights that 70% of cancer deaths are due to types not included in standard screenings and that the survival rate is much higher with early detection.
The campaign features a quiz to help people determine if they’re eligible for the Galleri blood test, which is mainly for those at higher cancer risk, especially those over 50. Grail’s president, Josh Ofman, mentions their goal to educate more people about these tests, which many older Americans are interested in once they learn about the benefits.
Grail is currently focused on the Galleri test, which analyzes blood samples to detect over 50 types of cancer. It’s available in the U.S. while Grail seeks full FDA approval.
