Gilead Sciences has started construction on a new high-tech manufacturing center in the Bay Area, a key part of its US growth and innovation plans. The facility will use advanced technology like robots and real-time digital monitoring to make it one of the most AI-driven centers in the biopharmaceutical industry. Located in Foster City, California, the five-story, 180,000-square-foot building will serve as a hub for Gilead’s drug development and manufacturing teams. It includes flexible lab spaces to speed up the creation of next-generation biologics. The new center also supports the US government’s push to boost domestic manufacturing. Daniel O’Day, Gilead’s CEO, said the $32 billion investment will create thousands of US jobs and strengthen America’s leadership in biopharma innovation. The project is expected to generate over 3,000 jobs and add $43 billion to the economy. California Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis praised the facility, calling it a win for American innovation, jobs, and supply chain security.
