A major European health agency, the European Medicines Agency (EMA), has recommended approving a new once-daily tablet called Rasonque (daraxonrasib) for adults with advanced pancreatic cancer<\/a>. This medication targets a specific genetic change (RAS mutation) that drives cancer growth, which has been difficult to treat until now. If approved by the European Commission, Rasonque would be the first widely available treatment in the European Union to specifically focus on this common mutation in metastatic pancreatic cancer, a particularly aggressive form of the disease. <\/p>\n

The recommendation is based on strong results from a large clinical trial called RASolute 302, which showed that patients taking Rasonque lived significantly longer than those receiving standard chemotherapy. Specifically, Rasonque reduced the risk of death by 60% compared to chemotherapy. This is especially meaningful because, for decades, chemotherapy has been the main treatment for this type of cancer despite its limited effectiveness. <\/p>\n

The EMA fast-tracked its review of Rasonque under a special program called the Cancer Medicines Pathfinder project, recognizing the urgent need for better treatment options. This project aims to speed up the approval process for promising new medicines so patients can access them sooner. Dr. Mark Goldsmith, CEO of Revolution Medicines, called the EMA\u2019s positive opinion a significant step toward making Rasonque available in Europe. He also highlighted how this expedited review could serve as a model for future approvals of innovative cancer treatments. <\/p>\n

Rasonque is intended for patients whose cancer has spread (metastasized) and who have already received at least one prior treatment. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA<\/a>) approved Rasonque for this use in August 2024.
