A Swedish biotech company called Anocca has started the first tests in humans of a new experimental cancer<\/a> treatment called ANOC-001. This treatment is designed specifically for patients with pancreatic cancer who have a certain genetic change in their tumor, called a KRAS G12V mutation. The treatment uses a patient’s own immune cells, which are modified in a lab to better recognize and attack cancer cells with this specific mutation. This is the first time this type of treatment, known as a precision TCR-T cell therapy, is being tested in Europe. <\/p>\n

Pancreatic cancer is a very aggressive disease, with fewer than 1 in 10 patients surviving five years after diagnosis. Most cases of pancreatic cancer have this KRAS mutation, making this treatment potentially helpful for a large group of patients. ANOC-001 is the first therapy from Anocca\u2019s program focused on pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, the most common type of pancreatic cancer. <\/p>\n

The treatment was entirely developed, tested, and made at Anocca\u2019s facilities in Sweden. It uses a new non-viral gene editing method to modify the patient\u2019s T-cells, which are part of the immune system. This approach aims to make the treatment more precise, safer, and easier to produce on a larger scale. <\/p>\n

Anocca has now started giving the treatment to patients at multiple hospitals across Europe, including sites in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands. The first phase of the clinical trial, called VIDAR-1, will test the safety and best dose of ANOC-001. The trial will also eventually test other similar treatments targeting different KRAS mutations in the same study design. <\/p>\n

Hugh Salter, Anocca\u2019s Chief Scientific Officer, explained: \u201cThe VIDAR-1 trial is set up to test several of our precision TCR-T treatments, each targeting a different KRAS mutation or HLA combination. ANOC-001 is the first, but we plan to introduce others targeting different KRAS mutations in this well-designed study. Using our non-viral gene editing technology allows us to produce these therapies more efficiently and make them available to more patients. We also want to thank our clinical partners, study participants, and their families for their support in making this possible.\u201d <\/p>\n

The company is currently recruiting patients and manufacturing the treatment at eight university hospitals in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
