A recent study led by researchers at Yoon et al. suggests that adding a natural compound called sodium caprate (C10) to oral semaglutide<\/a> tablets could improve how well the medication is absorbed in the gut. Semaglutide is a peptide-based drug approved for treating type 2 diabetes and helping with weight loss. It\u2019s currently available as an oral tablet (Rybelsus), but it has some challenges\u2014it\u2019s poorly absorbed when taken by mouth, which is why it\u2019s often given as an injection. The new research found that adding sodium caprate to the oral tablet helped it absorb better and more consistently in the gut. The study also showed that the optimized formula met all the required quality standards, such as hardness, disintegration, and uniformity of the tablet. This approach could make it easier for patients to take semaglutide by mouth instead of needing injections. The study was published in the journal *Pharmaceutics*. In related news, Boehringer Ingelheim recently shared promising results for a new drug called survodutide, which works on both the glucagon and GLP-1 pathways to help with obesity and a liver condition called MASH (metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis). Roche, another pharmaceutical company, has also made progress with an injectable drug called CT-388, which targets GLP-1 and GIP receptors.
