BioNTech, the German biotech company known for its COVID-19<\/a> vaccine, has announced plans to close its Singapore manufacturing plant and regional headquarters by the end of February 2027. This decision follows a review of the company\u2019s operations, as BioNTech adjusts its production capacity to match its long-term goals and current medical projects. The closure marks a significant shift from the company\u2019s earlier expansion plans during the COVID-19 pandemic. BioNTech purchased the Singapore facility from Novartis in November 2022, a time when it was earning billions from its COVID-19 vaccine, Comirnaty, developed in partnership with Pfizer. However, vaccine sales have since dropped sharply, with BioNTech reporting just 2.9 billion euros ($3.3 billion) in total sales for 2025\u2014a steep decline compared to its peak. This trend is not unique to BioNTech; Pfizer and Moderna have also seen their vaccine sales decline in recent years.
