BioMed X, a top innovation center for pharmaceuticals, has started a new research project with the Government of Barbados and the European Union’s PharmaNext Programme. The project, called ‘AI-Enabled Therapy of Early Diabetic Kidney<\/a> Disease in Barbados’, focuses on a big health issue: understanding early kidney disease in people with Type 2 Diabetes<\/a> in Barbados. This disease can be different for each person, and it’s not well understood. The project wants to find out how this disease works at a tiny level in Barbadian people by using advanced technology and artificial intelligence. They plan to create a special computer model, like a digital twin, to help doctors give better care to each patient. Leisel Juman, the head of BioMed X Barbados, said this project is important because it helps a group of people who haven’t had much research done for them. The Barbados Minister of Innovation, Jonathan Reid, said this shows their commitment to using science and technology to improve health.
